Granny Speak
Ellen Speak, known as Granny Speak, was born in 1861 in Bury, Lancashire. The founder of Leverbrook Export, Ken Winstanley, was the grandson of Granny Speak and fondly remembers her always baking cakes or a new loaf of bread. She would sit in her rocking chair, which overlooked an expansive parkland, long into nightfall and dream of new recipes that she could bake for her friends, family and local community.
In honour of remembering his favourite memories and his grandmother, Ken Winstanley introduced the Granny Speak range in the 1970s. Whilst initially specialising in cakes and bread mixes, the range has since developed to include:
- Food Colours
- Food Essences
- Flavourings
- Sausages
- Bacon
- Gammon
- Halal Turkey
Although the range has modernised, we have never forgotten the importance that Granny Speak placed on using quality ingredients. When people enjoy our range, we want them to enjoy the same happiness and content that Ken experienced when he visited Granny Speak. This is why we are the trusted brand for our customers.
